Getting ready to cruise after a good night's rest at a hotel. It's always wise to get to the port city the day before the cruise. There is so much excitement in the air when you are first boarding the ship. Everyone is in a great mood.
Cruising out of Miami. The poolside BBQ is smoking, the band is playing Caribbean music, and the drinks are flowing. It would be hard to find anyone unhappy at the "Sail-away party".
Georgetown, Grand Cayman. Yes, the water here is really this blue! This is a great shopping port, especially for jewelry.
WESTERN and CENTRAL CARIBBEAN
Line them up. Many of the Caribbean ports have several cruise lines there at the same time.
Roatan, Honduras. This is a hilly island with beautiful beaches. It's famous for the coral reefs and great places to snorkel and dive. They also make very nice wood products that are for sale all over the island.
Xunantunich: El Castillo, Belize. It's about 150 feet tall. When you first walk into the courtyard there's a mystical feeling of timelessness. It's amazing how the Mayans built these structures manually in the middle of the jungle.
El Castillo has a long steep climb to the
top. If you are physically able the view of the countryside is well worth the effort.
The view from the top. If you have a fear of heights, you may have trouble getting
down. The country of Guatemala is only about 5 miles away and is part of the view.
A side view of El Castillo. The remaining frieze is impressive. There are also steps within the tower at the top.
Tulum, south of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. It was a walled city overlooking the Gulf of Mexico built for the privileged Mayans. There are about 60 structures on the site.
One of the many structures at Tulum. In December of each year, the rising sun aligns with the opening in the building.
The beautiful water at Tulum. There are a couple of beaches that are open to the public, but watch out for the undertow.
